The other day, as I was running a few errands — mentally juggling the usual list of tasks and to-dos — I popped in my headphones.
A playlist I hadn’t heard in years came on.

And just like that, I was back in college.
Walking across campus.
Uggs on. iPod in my Northface. Cold air on my cheeks.

An eclectic mix of pop, dancehall, and Punjabi music played as I made my way to class,
carrying me right back to the rhythm of that season.

There were things to do — papers due, plans to make — but there was also ease.
A sense of movement, of everything feeling possible,
where the biggest concern was what you were doing that weekend.

Not to trivialize anything … there were real challenges then too,
but the energy of that time held a little more space to drift, explore, and just be.

And as the music played, I felt a small part of that return.
Not in a “take me back” kind of way
more like: oh right, this part of me still exists.

I’m not someone who avoids nostalgia — I love it (when I can remember it, lol).
It gets a bad rep, like it’s about being stuck or wishing yourself backward
and sure, it can be.

But it can also be something gentler.
Something that reminds you of who you’ve always been — not just who you were.
A spark. A rhythm. A feeling.
You didn’t lose it — you just haven’t tapped into it in a while.

You don’t have to go back in time to feel like yourself again.
Sometimes you just need a small reminder — so you can carry it forward.

A break in the rhythm of now.
A tiny reset.

It takes the edge off my current worries.
Softens the noise.
And wakes up something creative and alive in me again.

Because sometimes, you don’t need to fix the feeling
you just need to shift it.
Let a beat carry you there.
